So Bill Gates Has This Idea for a History Class …
By ANDREW ROSS SORKIN, nytimes.com

In 2008, shortly after Bill Gates stepped down from his executive role at Microsoft, he often awoke in his 66,000-square-foot home on the eastern bank of Lake Washington and walked downstairs to his private gym in a baggy T-shirt, shorts, sneakers…

The programming provocation they released a few hours ago is called Dark Wallet, a piece of software designed to allow untraceable, anonymous online payments using the cryptocurrency bitcoin. Taaki and Wilson see in bitcoin’s stateless transactions the potential for a new economy that fulfills the crypto-anarchist dream of truly uncontrollable money. They envision a digital payment network that circumvents every authority’s attempts to tax it, seize it, censor it, track it, or imprison those who would use it to trade in contraband like weapons, drugs, and even abhorrent services like murder-for-hire and child pornography.

Become a Tumblr Mastermind: The Secret Sauce

I recently used Tumblr as the topic for my weekly Twitter chat, #TheSMGirl.  What I noticed was that many marketers had not even begun to think of Tumblr as a great way to find customers and fans.

Yes, my thoughts exactly.

I wasn’t going to write this blog post, however, the final push was a an @ message I received from sejournalcom (Search Engine Journal) on Twitter:

So, here I am writing this blog post on how to make your Tumblr awesome.

To start, make sure you know the rules.  Yes, even Tumblr has rules.

  • There is a 250 posts per day limit.
  • The Queue can only hold 250 posts at a time
  • As for friending, as with most of Tumblr’s rules, you can only friend 250 people per day
  • You can only send 10 asks per hour and only 5 of those asks can be anonymous
  • No matter how many tags you add to a post, only the first 5 are searchable. I know, we have all wasted a lot of precious time tagging on Tumblr.

Now that we have the rules out of the way, let’s talk about “best practices”

  • Reblog as text, please.  Even I, with my automated posting from one place to another, make the mistake of boring people with a link reblog. Let’s work on this together and make Tumblr an even more interesting place for everyone.
  • Use those @ tags and tag your friends!  Tag people, places, companies and anyone else you want on Tumblr.  It’s awesome.

Now for the Good stuff, the “Secret Sauce”

What is XKit?  XKit is made up of several browser extensions that will help you optimize your Tumblr blog.  Here is a list of my favorite XKit extensions:

1.  Timestamp

Timestamp allows us to see when a post was made (exact time and date). This extension also works with Asks!

2.  Reblog as Text

This extensions makes it so you always reblog as text and not links.  It saves time and makes life a lot easier for those of us who tend to forget to reblog as text on our own.

3.  Tag Replacer

This extension allows us to remove, add or edit our tags from old posts. The real beauty of this one is, it allows us to do this with up to 100 posts at once.

4.  Find Inactives

This one is one of my favorites, because I hate following dead blogs.  This extension goes through all of the blogs you follow and let’s you know which ones are inactive and for how long.

These are just a few of my favorite extensions that can be found using XKit, but there are many more where they came from.  Stop slowing down your day and download XKit.

Your Tumblr depends on it.
